Serious Madden Problems?
Players reporting frequent freezes in latest Madden title.

by: Michael Ogunnubi
September 06, 2008

While the Madden-oliday was celebrated last month, this happy moment seemed to be hampered by a serious problem that many players started reporting on message boards and blog posts. Apparently, some players were receiving a number of problems, including online disconnects, franchise progression issues and weak coverage problems. However, the biggest problem appeared to be freezes that would pop up every now and then during play calling or highlight screens which would halt the game. According to a Producer Blog posted by Ian Cummings, Senior Designer of Madden 2010 on the EA Sports site on August 26, the team has been working on a new patch, and has been furiously trying to work on the stability of the game, as well as tracking down what was causing the problem.

Although Cummings mentioned that the issue was very hard because not everyone on their team was able to detect it, he recommended that players should save and reboot their game after they've started a game if players like playing multiple matches at a time, or save and exit a game to start a new one. Cummings mentioned that players that have only played "one game at a time (or even one Franchise training session at a time), and saving/rebooting afterwards, have had zero crashes." Cummings also mentioned at the end of his post that the patch should take less than three weeks to be released to the public, assuming all things go well.

While we here at Xbox Evolved haven't experienced the freeze bug ourselves after dozens of games, I contacted a friend at EA to see if there was an update on the ETA of the patch. As we published this piece, we hadn't received a comment on the situation.
