Early Friday morning in Japan, Square Enix issued statement formally canceling its buyout bid for Tecmo.
The move comes following Tecmo's announcement the day before that it was rejecting the Square Enix bid and was instead pursuing a possible merger with Koei.
In today's statement, Square Enix said that it had determined continuing negotiations based off the terms of the original proposal would be difficult, and thus withdrew the offer.
